Contextual Statement
This was a project I completed for my Multicultural Psychology Course in my sophomore year of college. We had to do a PowerPoint proposal for a social justice topic and come up with an action plan. I wanted to do an Advocacy Proposal relating to my own experiences and community, and that was relevant to current events. I settled on Jewish abortion access. The reversal of Roe v. Wade impacts religious freedom by limiting access to safe procedures. The assignment revolved around understanding a real-world impact and the context behind the issue, and a focus on presenting the information to the class to educate about the topic.
This assignment emphasizes my skills in the realm of presenting educational information to the public. It showcases some of my expertise with researching ideological and political topics, and how to present the information in a way that flows in a presentation. My skills with justice and advocacy are shown with a focus on research and empirical support to introduce a serious issue. I had to discuss impact, psychology, and relevant groups that would have stake in the issue.
Reflection
I learned a lot about researching and proposals, and this project solidified my goal of working with an identity based nonprofit, or just one dedicated to positive change.
